Abby is drawn to all things old and rusty. She draws inspiration from her love of vintage books, antique stores, old barns and dusty attics. As items age, faded golden hues and tattered edges give character and a sense of history, providing the backdrop to her creations.
Abby started her art journey in a 24-foot travel trailer, exploring various forms of mixed media, yet she always came back to her love of old books. Her dream as a young girl was to have a library of vintage books–the older, the better. Her favourite pastime is browsing in old obscure bookstores. Every payday, she would find the oldest book she could find to add to her collection. Each of Abby’s creations is one-of-a-kind–no two books are exactly alike. Lovingly crafted from scratch, bound with traditional hand-sewn bookbinding methods. Within each book, you may discover many items from the past: old file folders, fabric remnants, sewing notions, used tea bags, vintage music sheets and ephemera. Wrinkled and ragged pages and loose threads lend a well-loved touch.
Abby likes to create “functional art.” Each book is built to last. Her creations are a way of holding your cherished memories, thoughts and notes while stepping back in time.
